I am a part of a personal growth group we call the Gratitude Group. We each have an accountability partner and we make a post each day to each other that consists of these things:
- 3 things I’m grateful for
- 2 things I’ve learned
- 1 thing I love about myself
I participate in this because it is a disciplined practice of choosing to look at the positive and the things I can control. it is an exercise of improving my mindset.
I have found many times in my posts, being grateful for my career, my field, different experiences with co-workers.
I appreciate working for a company that starts every team meeting with “uplifts” and sets a precedent for us to treat each other well.
I appreciate working with leaders who value genuine and humble people. I don’t need to flaunt my knowledge to be seen in my role and that means a lot to me.
I appreciate working in a field where my love of psychology and all the work I have done to learn about how we think and feel can play into my daily work.
I appreciate that there are so many areas in the UX field to dig into and grow my knowledge, so many opportunities for personal growth when I am open to it.
Working in tech is not for the faint of heart and sometimes people find it is just not for them after getting a taste of it.
For me, tech was the challenge I longed for after a career where I felt unchallenged and unfulfilled.
For me, tech was the challenge to rise up to after living in a right-brain world of painting, design, and illustration, needing to prove to myself that I am capable in a more logical world.
For me, tech was the challenge that I needed while I was fighting breast cancer, raising 2 teenagers, and in grad school, giving me reason to fight forward, knowing that I had so much more growing I wanted to do.
Ten years later, I am grateful every day for the opportunity to grow and learn and work with people I sincerely enjoy.
